Between the thundering and lighting rain showers of yesterday, we’re getting plenty of sunshine here in beautiful Panama City, Florida.
Doesn’t hurt that the temperatures have been staying in the mid to late 70’s.
All in all, it’s been good weather for the multitudes of northern college kids down here on spring break.
Now, if we could just find a way to keep them tourists outta my favorite parking spot at the beach Super Walmart, I wouldn’t have a problem overlooking their sometimes raucous mating rituals…
Anyway, it’s time for another edition of our weekly favorite Aging News.
And, we’ll begin with…
Pterostilbene More Potent Anti-Aging Agent Than Resveratrol:
Just about everyone with a few age related wrinkles, knows about the possible anti-aging virtues of the nutritional supplement resveratrol.
Aside: Click the following blue link to read my post about it: Does Resveratrol Have Anti-Aging Benefits
David Stipp, the author of The Youth Pill: Scientists at the Brink of an Anti-Aging Revolution, has just published a fetchingly interesting article about new research in the field of anti-aging, that suggests resveratrol benefits are roundly surpassed by pterostilbene, a similar element.
Test-tube and rodent studies also suggest that pterostilbene is more potent than resveratrol when it comes to improving brain function, warding off various kinds of cancer and preventing heart disease…”
According to Stipp’s article, pterostilbene supplements for us human types should be available in the near future. On the meantime, you can read more about this when you click on the following blue link: Pterostilbene More Potent Than Resveratrol

Drugs That Dramatically Increase Healthy Lifespan Discovered:
A research team from The Scripps Research Institute, has discovered a new class of drugs (senolytic agents) that slows down the aging process, improves heart functions and extends healthy lifespans.
The prototypes of these senolytic agents have more than proven their ability to alleviate multiple characteristics associated with aging,” said Mayo Clinic Professor James Kirkland, MD, PhD, senior author of the new study.
It may eventually become feasible to delay, prevent, alleviate or even reverse multiple chronic diseases and disabilities as a group, instead of just one at a time…”
Real exciting news, I know. But…
Before we get too excited, to date, they’ve only been tested on lab rats. Still, this could be a major deal.

6 Food Additives Used In U.S. That Are Banned In Other Countries:
From my ‘Things I Found On The Internet This Week File:
The U.S. consumer watchdog, the FDA, lets us eat six different food additives that are banned from public consumption as unsafe, in countries like Russia and China.

Green Tea Ingredient May Kill Oral Cancer Cells:
I guess this is good news for us green tea aficionados. At least it gives us another reason to drink the stuff?
Anyway, Penn State food scientists have published findings that say a compound found in green tea could start a reaction that kills oral cancer cells, without harming healthy cells.
The article also said:
The problem with a lot of chemotherapy drugs — especially early chemotherapy drugs — is that they really just target rapidly dividing cells, so cancer divides rapidly, but so do cells in your hair follicles and cells in your intestines, so you have a lot of side effects,” said Lambert.
But you don’t see these sorts of side effects with green tea consumption…”
