Hope you’re feeling good and having some fun.
Still getting used to living in Marshall, Michigan.
It’s a really nice town with an active community, which is a plus..
More about that at a later date.
It’s time for another edition of our favorite feature Aging News.
And, we’ll begin with:
Latest News About Alzheimer’s Disease:
According to the Alzheimer’s Association:
Alzheimer’s disease is believed to be caused by a buildup of beta-amyloid plaques in the brain, which interferes with neurons and disrupts cognitive function…”
Now researchers at the Northern California Institute for Research and Education, in San Francisco, think they’ve discovered another piece the Alzheimer’s puzzle.
As a layperson, the ‘public’ (link above) research information was kinda confusing.
Yet, I did figure out there’s the possibility that 2 new drugs, now in testing, could reverse the effects of Alzheimer’s and dementia.
After struggling through the official report, I went on to find an article about the research at, surprisingly, Motley Fool’s web site: Latest News About Alzheimer’s Disease
BTW: Here’s the link to an easy to understand web page about the following:
- What is Alzheimer’s disease?
- What happens to the brain in Alzheimer’s disease?
- How many Americans have Alzheimer’s disease?
- How long can a person live with Alzheimer’s disease?
- What is dementia?
6 Super Easy Ways To Boost Your Brain Power:
Just so we don’t get too depressed thinking about the above, here’s a funny look at how we can pump up the volume of our liveliness potential.
Other than drinking more coffee as a guard against cognitive impairment, my other favorite brain booster, listed in the following article, was the use of good old-fashioned sarcasm…
…according to new research published by the Harvard Business School, sarcastic remarks might actually make the commentor and the recipient more creative…”
Yeah, right. And, I’m gonna get you a pony for your birthday!

10 Super Foods That Can Improve Your Memory:
Because fading memories are closely related to Alzheimer’s and dementia, as we often talk about, it’s only fair that we look for more ways to keep our memories strong and chug-chugging along.
As we’ve been repeatedly told, ‘we are what we eat’, I’ve gotta list of foods that’re supposed to help keep us mentally alert, and other such good sounding things…
OK, so you probably already know the benefits of many of the foods on this list, as did I.
Still, reminders to eat more of the right ‘stuff’ is always appreciated.
Plus, I wasn’t aware of numbers 8 or 9: turmeric and rosemary:
Rosemary is full of carnosic acid; this helps to protect the brain from various negative factors that are linked to Alzheimer’s disease.
Rosemary also helps to slow down the natural processes through which our brains age, helping us stay focused on even the most complicated of tasks!”
Intend to try both turmeric and rosemary in my future diet plans.

It’s Never Too Late To Learn Something New:
Live as if you’ll die tomorrow: Learn as if you’ll live forever… (My apologies to Mahatma Gandhi from whom I adapted this quote)
If we half way take care of ourselves, I believe we can keep learning new tricks until we pass over into ‘the great divide’…
Whatever that may end up being.
I also think adding new interests into our daily lives, not only gives us something to look forward to, but is essential for increasing our longevity.
In keeping with my thinking, and for no reason other than I’m somewhat interested in knowing how ‘things’ works, I just started a new class on ‘coding’. (the kind of coding that runs web pages and phone apps)
The class I’m doing is free at: Beginning Code
While on the subject of life-long learning, this week, while searching for something else, I saw an interesting info graphic featuring successful people who didn’t start pursuing their passions until a little later in life.

5 Entrepreneurs Who Proved Success Can Come At Any Age: Success Can Come At Any Age
RIP: Cilla Black:
It’s no secret I loved the so-called ‘British Invasion’ of mid-1960’s pop music.
And, one of my guilty pleasures was listening to British ‘girl’ singers like Lulu, Millie Small, Marianne Faithful and Cilla Black.
I especially liked Cilla Black, who’s voice reminded me of Tom Jones.
Her real name was Pricilla White before some goofy manager convinced her to change it. (Real imaginative, huh?)
She was working as a coat checker in Liverpool’s Cavern Club, when her singing talents were spotted by members of up and coming band going by the name of The Beatles.
Sad to say, Cilla Black died this past Saturday.
According to reports, she fell, hit her head and laid there about 5 hours before being discovered.
There’s also speculation that her fall was caused by a stroke.
No matter the cause, so long Miss Cilla, you’ll be missed. (Click the link below to hear one of my favorite Cilla Black songs)
