I’m back in Florida…
And, it’s another beautiful, and sunny day, here in Panama City, Florida.
Lot’s of changes going on in our lives just now.
In my next post, I’ll tell you about them. Until then…
It’s time for another edition of our weekly favorite Aging News.
And, we’ll begin with…
Social Security and Medicare Money Problems:
After years of paying for it, America’s working class has come to count on Social Security and Medicare to ‘take care’ of them after retirement.
Yet, every year some U.S. politicians, usually in the sacred name of a balanced budget, threaten to upset that apple cart.
Trouble is, present and future funding, needs stay earmarked for Social Security & Medicare.
According to sources referenced in a recent article I read about the programs, accounting methods, status reports and projections, don’t always stack up to real world scrutiny…
Ain’t now, and ain’t gonna be, extra money in the programs!
Dartmouth professor Samir Soneji and Harvard doctoral candidate Konstantin Kashin, have concluded that the Social Security and Medicare Trustees’ reports to U.S. Congress,
“…are biased and overestimated the assets in the program and overestimated solvency of the Trust Funds…”
In layperson’s parlance, “money going out will exceed money coming in, sooner than congress, and the public, have been told.”
Interesting and thought provoking article…

PTSD May Cause Premature Aging:
New study alleges that having post traumatic stress disorder, can cause premature aging.
The study, done by researchers at the University of California-San Diego School of Medicine and the Veterans Affairs San Diego Health System, is the 1st time PTSD has been shown to instigate biological changes.
Findings also suggests that PTSD sufferers die sooner than non-ptsd-ers do.
I recently wrote a post about my history with PTSD, so this news got my attention.
You’d probably find it interesting as well…

Baby Boomer Generation Death Rate Is Falling:
Yup, it’s official… statistics show that Baby Boomers are living longer than their parents.
The Centers For Disease Control & Prevention, have just released their 2014 report about the health of Americans.
And, the report included a ‘special feature’ about the health of adults aged 55-64…
Or, as the media long ago coined them, The Baby Boom Generation.
Actually, my figuring makes the age span more like 58-70, but let’s not nit-pick.
Not ashamed to admit that I only skipped around different sections of the 490 page report. Yet, I did read the 15 pages on ‘Boomer Health’…
Unless you’re having trouble falling asleep, something I wouldn’t advise you to do.
Instead, read the following, well-written, article about the report’s Baby Boom Generation’s health & lifestyle choices.
And, discover why chronic health problems are screwing up us kids on the Far Side Of 55’s joy of living longer.

Technology Helping Kids Track Aging Parent’s Safety:
Remember the classic “I’ve fallen and can’t get up” TV commercial featuring an elderly lady laying on the floor?
I think the product being pimped was ‘Life Alert’, some type of monitoring system targeted at protection of aging loved ones.
Well, comparing that gadget to the monitoring systems available today, would be like comparing rotary phones to one of Apple’s newest iPhones…
For example, CBS News recently aired a report about some of the newest methods available to watch out for our aging loved ones, without being with them.

Fox News featured a segment about Lively’s version of their long-distance monitoring system, also aimed at helping the elderly age in place.

Bonus: Skin Care Video:
My skin care formula is pretty simple:
- Apply mineral oil immediately after showering and before drying off
- Uh, that’s it…
But, then again, I don’t particularly care what my skin ‘looks’ like.
If you do, then you’ll like this video, featuring a Dermatologist, showing treatments for aging skin, at: Treatments For Aging Skin Sorry about the 2 short advertisements.
