Another beautiful sunny day here in Panama City, Florida. Kinda on the chilly side, though.
The arctic blast has finally arrived here, actually below freezing last night. Ugh!
It was 31 degrees when I took Ginger out for her morning routine. With a 15 mph cold wind outta the northwest, burrrr, kinda says it all.
If we’re lucky, today’s temperature will max out at about 52 cold degrees!
Suppose I’ll have to live with it. What else is a guy gonna do?
Wherever you are, I hope you’re healthy, happy, warm and cozy.
Have pity on me for a minute while I talk about my favorite football team, the Detroit Lions?
Last Sunday they rolled into Glendale, Arizona, with a 7 and 2 win/loss record. And, rolled out Sunday night 7 – 3. Still in 1st place in the NFL Central’s old ‘Black & Blue Division’.
Not that the Green Bay Packers aren’t looking forward to knocking themselves off a big chunk of first place Lion.
In a season where the Lions had won 4 thrillers in a row, their offense just couldn’t figure out the Arizona Cardinals swarming defense.
Being a fan of defensive struggles, I really enjoyed the game. Even if the Lions ended up losing what was a much closer game than the 14 – 6 score indicated.
Just one more sports reference, promise:
I hadn’t really watched the Cardinals in action this year. And, I was amazed and impressed with them. If they avoid any more key injuries, and work out their offensive problems, they’re a cinch to go far in the play-offs…”
As you may know, I’m now in my late 60’s.
Yeah, I know I look every damn minute of it… And, some days, more so than others.
Despite having arrhythmia, (irregular heartbeat), a titanium & ceramic left hip and an affinity for good old Hillbilly Cuisine (and no, that is not an oxymoron!) I’m still in pretty darn good shape, both mentally and physically.
For which I’m grateful and mostly blame it on my hard-working ancestors…
Because, until a few years ago, I sure didn’t do anything, on purpose anyway, to help my favorable genetics keep up with the effects of an aging body.
Side Note: Because I’m not sure they helped or hurt me, I’m not counting the various prescription medications, well-meaning health providers laid on me, in the years following my congestive heart failure, circa 2004.
Whew, I hope you didn’t read the preceding looong sentence in one breath…
And, as the truth will out, my current healthy lifestyle isn’t the result of a master plan. (Well, it’s far healthier than any other time of my life).
Just as I had no idea what I’d do if I was lucky enough to be alive at this age, I sure as hell didn’t think I’d start my mornings off choking down tablespoons of cod liver, olive and coconut oil.
Yet, I gratefully do.
Just as I now gratefully and happily live a lifestyle that includes regular experimentation, observation, and adjustment of issues that relate to my health and general well-being.
Being the same superficial and shallow person I’ve always been, I probably wouldn’t have had the haziest notion I was doing any of that thoughtful-sounding stuff…
IF I hadn’t started sharing my journey beyond the far side of 55, on this blog. For that privilege,
I Thank You Very Much!
And, if you’ll stay with me, I’ll continue telling you my stories about getting older, and pass on to you the results of my investigations into issues that effect us senior citizens.
Ideas for me, your aging related story, or comments are very damn welcome…
