Trite? No, not by a long-shot. Controlled studies have repeatedly validated it’s veracity. For an example click on the blue link: Purpose Of Life
Our. Sense. Of. Purpose?
Sound intimidating, and maybe stir up some anxiety?
You can thank your favorite self-help guru for that feeling.
Yet, we shouldn’t resent people for trying to make a buck upon our natural curiosity about the meaning of life. And, those kinda ‘deep thoughts’…
Yet, the life-purpose concept’s been blown outta proportion, don’t you think?
After all, we’re lucky to have the security and the luxury to even contemplate such questions.
I mean, past generations were too busy looking for their next meal, or shelter from the storm…
So forgive us if we’re a little mixed up when it comes to the big questions!
Most people our age didn’t grow up with role models who were consciously living within driving distance of their sense of purpose…
On the other hand, our purpose doesn’t have to fix society’s ills or discover a cure for texting while behind the wheel of a 3-ton suv.
Despite our many similarities, each of us is unique.
What if, within our uniqueness, lies our source of purpose?
Worked for Einstein.
Unfortunately, few of us are an Albert Einstein.
Nor are we a Bill Gates. Or a Nicki Minaj.
Most of us aren’t destined for notoriety.
And, it’s high time some of us realized the
blessings awesomeness of this liberating fact!
How fortunate we are when we’re happy to roll outta bed because we’re looking forward to a hot cuppa, crabbing over the latest news about President Trump’s antics, walking our dog, or cooking a special meal for someone we care about!
When the kids where growing up, getting them off to school was not only a hurdle but added an urgency to rise and shine.
As we age, helping out our parents brings another shade of meaning and purpose.
If you don’t consider such mundane things spiritually fulfilling, have you considered the possibility that spiritual feelings and fulfillment are built upon such slivers of everyday life?
What if your life’s purpose is already within you?
And, we could get in touch with them by practicing conscious awareness of being alive and, well L.I.V.I.N.G.
Could living a life on purpose be that simple?
For most of us, I think so.
Our life purpose doesn’t need be legendary or esoteric…
Nor service to the so-called greater good.
On a planet rapidly approaching 8 billion people, it’s unwise to grade levels of individual purpose.
Tending our own garden, while acknowledging our kinship with mankind, is testament of living well and on purpose.
If I gave advice, and I don’t!, it would be: replace thoughts of a greater power judging you with recognition of your personal ‘aliveness’ and how breathtaking that is!
On the other hand…
If you must formalize your sense of purpose, try this:
When you catch yourself in a moment of enjoyment and anticipation, write those feelings down. When you’re ready, consolidate those moments into a fancy in-your-face-life-purpose-statement.
Not only could this process satisfy your need for closure, it also gives you a ready made gratitude list.
This isn’t settling!
There’s no reason to frustrate ourselves searching for ‘our higher calling’ before it’s developed.
First, we need to learn how to live within were we are. As we accept what we can’t change, feel gratitude for our uniqueness and practice living in the moments, if reason for being alive is more than we’re now doing – that purpose will out.
We needn’t chase ‘it’ down.
Instead, we’d live longer and live happier, if we relaxed and let life flow. Most of us should spend more time by ourselves. We also need more time not doing, i.e. being idle, doing absolutely nothing. BTW, doing nothing shouldn’t always include a rehash of your past or worry about your future.
If you find it difficult to eliminate painful memories and worry from attacking your solace, try meditation or yoga. Both have helped many feel more alive and helped them realize the power in the moment.
You already have a purpose, realized or not.
Having a sense of purpose releases feelings of fulfillment and anticipation. As an added bonus, studies show A Sense Of Purpose Can Keep Your Mind & Body Strong For A Lifetime.
