Here’s this week’s edition of ways we can live longer, and healthier, than our parents…
MIND Diet Could Lower Alzheimer’s Risk By 53%:
Here’s some good news about keeping our brains fit:
Newly released research study published in the The Journal of The Alzheimer’s Association suggests that the MIND diet could reduce our chances of getting Alzheimer’s disease by up to 53%.
MIND Diet: Mediterranean-DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay
“The Mediterranean and DASH dietary patterns have been associated with slower rate of cognitive decline. The Mediterranean diet reflects a culturally-based diet pattern whereas the DASH diet was devised initially to reduce blood pressure.
The MIND diet concentrates upon foods from the two diets that have already been shown to prevent dementia and cognitive decline…”
Reading about the research findings on The Journal of The Alzheimer’s Association’s website was dullish & kinda dreary.
But, I found an interesting & more entertaining article on the Prevention website.
Here’s the site’s list of foods MIND’ers would eat:
- At least 3 servings of whole grains a day
- 6 servings of leafy greens a week plus one other veggie serving a day
- 2 servings of berries a week
- 1 serving of fish a week
- 2 servings of poultry a week
- 3 servings of legumes a week
- 5 servings of nuts a week
- A daily serving of alcohol, preferably red wine for its long list of health benefits
I rarely eat chicken. And, I’m a teetotaler. Otherwise, I’m already following the MIND diet, without even knowing I was doing something scientist approve of.
Soo, it seems an easy enough diet to follow…
Ah, but to get the full benefits, there’s a little more to it:

10 Easy Ways To Look 5 Years Younger:
OK, OK…If I could look 5 years younger, I’d still look like the southern end of a mule meandering in a northernly direction.
But, 5 years younger would look good on you.
So, tip #1:
“To keep your skin as taut and glowy as possible, load up on colorful whole foods (think blueberries, cantaloupe, broccoli, kale), good fats (avocado, almonds, fatty wild fish) and lean protein (preferably free range or grass fed)…”
And, there’re 9 more tips. (#2 & # 7 seemed a tad kinky to me)

How To Stay Connected & Keep It Real:
When’s the last time you noticed:
- you were breathing?
- you tasted, and identified, the different flavors of a meal?
- how calming a hot shower was before bed?
- or, how comforting clean sheets were when you slid into bed, after that soothing shower?
Yeah, me too!
I get so caught up in doing ‘stuff’, that I forget to live in the moments of the little things that aren’t so little…
I was reminded of this when reading a thought provoking article listing 20 ways for us to savor the act of living.
Let’s not forget life is in the moment, not in achievement…

Eat This To Live Longer:
What do chocolates, cranberries and kimchi have in common?
Though I didn’t even know what ‘kimchi’ was, these are all foods that we should eat to live longer.
BTW: like sauerkraut and yogurt, Kimchi is a fermented food that contains garlic and probiotic lactic acid bacteria that helps with our digestive system and may prevent colon cancer.
