It’s nice and sunny here in Panama City, Florida.
But, it’s chilly this morning, clocking in at 50 degrees. And, 74 degrees is the expected high temp for today.
I’d prefer warmer, but you know how it is.
Certainly hope you’re also healthy and being amused about something or ‘nother…
Speaking of being amused, here in the U.S. today is mid-term elections. So called mid-term because we aren’t voting for someone as the country’s next ‘Big-Dick’, or in some circles, Mr. President.
More’s the pity!
My wife, Treasa and I, always vote. We usually see eye to eye with our voting. Unlike my parents, who took great delight in canceling out each others votes.
My Dad was straight up Republician while Mom was, and is, a card-carrying devout Democrat, just like her beloved Daddy.
I don’t identify with either major party, and select whomever I think is the best person for the job. I do admit some bias for women candidates.
I’ve never voted for a Democratic presidential offering. But, of the potential presidential hopefuls now being discussed by the talking heads, I’d have a hard time not punching my vote for Hillary Blanking Clinton.
I know. I turned down two chances to vote for her husband, Bill. Yet, she’d be my pick.
Election day was a big event back in Lee County, Kentucky, where I grew up. Getting the vote out was a major sport that included money and favors being exchanged. (I was told)
The old saying back in those days, when something like this,
I’ll vote early. I’ll vote often. And, I’ll vote one extra time, just for you…”
Anyway, I take my voting rights seriously. And, can’t understand why some people, often with the most to lose, don’t.
Again, speaking of being amused…
Treasa and I liked the 1st airing of the new CBS TV comedy show The McCartys. And, we’re not easily entertained by TV writers.
On the other hand, The McCartys first episode was rampant with Irish Catholic cliches, character stereotypes, including a sensitive gay son, two sports addicted bone-headed brothers, near party-girl sister, covert manipulating, sharp-tongued mother and good-hearted, but oblivious father.
Sounds like a recipe for entertainment embarrassment, huh?
And, the show should stink…
Yet, thanks to the appealing actors and their chemistry, it was funny without being cute or too obvious.
I don’t know anything about the actors doing the four kids. But Laurie Metcalf, who plays mom, and Jack McGee, playing dad, are seriously talented actors.
Laurie Metcalf, you may remember as the sister to Roseanne Barr’s Roseanne TV sitcom, yuck & gag. Hey, Roseanne is a brilliant comedian and writer, but I just didn’t get her Roseanne TV show.
Metcalf is an actress who can hold her own when sharing the screen with anyone I’ve seen her with. And, she’s worked a lot.
Probably my favorite role of her’s was the horny neighbor in John Candy’s low-keyed movie comedy, Uncle Buck.
And, Jack McGee! He’s one of my all time favorite ‘what did we see that dude in?’ actors.
Last year he did turn in the gritty movie, Gangster Squad, that was perfect. He was also great in the cult classic movie, L.A. Confidential, again playing a cop.
BTW: L.A. Confidential was based on a book written by the world’s greatest living crime story writer, James Ellroy.
If you’d like to catch The McCartys, you’d best hurry. I doubt it will last long. It’s that kinda show.
That’s it for today. I’ve gotta go vote, already. Perhaps you do too?
Ideas for me, your aging related story, or comments are very damn welcome…
