Finally, after two overcast and rainy days, it’s a beautiful, and sunny, day here in Panama City, Florida.
It’s only supposed to be maybe 64 degrees, but for a Feb. 5th, I’ll take it.
I hope you notice this post to you is two days late.
On my birthday, two days ago, I was indeed sitting were I am now, and transferring my thoughts into bits and bytes that you can read on this web site.
And, had just written the following three sentences…
Still having some pain from the dental problems of a few weeks ago.
Which is strange. I’m a fast healer. And, I’m starting to wonder if there’s something else going on.
Giving it until next week, and if not noticeably better, plan to get my MD involved.
Almost simultaneously with completing the writing of the preceding…
A thunderous bolt of searing pain ‘ping-ponged’ about the confines of my head. The pain was almost intense enough to knock me out, something I would have welcomed.
Thankfully, the pain’s intensity faded within minutes. And, it probably wasn’t quite as bad as I remember it. But it left behind a wide yellow streak of dread that more could come.
And, it did get my attention.
I immediately, well after a bit of crying and whining like a little kid, assumed the pain had something to do with what had been going on in my mouth.
Over the next hour, I tried setting up emergency appointments to get checked out…
I couldn’t get past the gate keepers, of the dentist who had done the original work, so I couldn’t personally convince her of the urgency.
Despite my condition, there was nothing she was willing to do for me, until the following afternoon.
Can you believe that? I’ve been seeing her for over two years. Never missed an appointment. Have always paid her upon services rendered, etc…
Still thinking the pain, which had again hit me, but with less intensity by then, was caused by the dental work, I started calling, and pleading my case, to random dentists I found on the local phone book’s yellow pages. (remember those?)
It didn’t take me long to conclude that, in my area at least, dentists are a buncha heartless
bastards medical professionals.
To say I wasn’t having any luck would be kin to saying Bruce Jenner was a lucky man. Sorry, because, on many levels, that was SO wrong of me to even hint at…
Then I had what turned out to be a brilliant idea!
I called the office of the dentist I went to before the lady who was already my ex-dentist. (how’s that for a sentence that’s make any English major proud?)
Anyway, I called. They welcomed me with open arms much like the Bible’s prodigal son story.
Within the hour that good man had his fingers in my mouth and was busy explaining that I had an acute infection and that he was prescribing a cure for that and also getting me some pain pills that would get me through the recovery.
He also scheduled an appointment for the next morning, so could do a root canal on that evil, satanic temple of a tooth.
Yesterday he did the root canal. Today, I’ve no pain for the 1st time in about 5 weeks. And, I’m loving it.
Good birthday, huh? Talk to you next time.
Ideas for me, your aging related story, or comments are very welcome…
