Light Activity Vs. Sitting On Our Assets:
The case against setting for long periods is stacking up.
And, the case for even light activities is also growing. Researchers are finding evidence that setting for hours on end messes up our DNA. Especially in older people.
Because I spend a lot of time on the computer, I’ve been reminding myself to get up every hour for a few minutes and do some stretches and flexing exercises. Don’t know if they’re helping me, but what’s to lose?

Researchers at The University of Queensland and Melbourne International Diabetes Institute have just published the results of a study that looked at the effects of even light activity has on older people’s health.
They concluded that any active pursuit may reduce the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Sounds like pretty good news to me.
My definition of ‘light activity’ is doing anything which doesn’t involve laying about like a hormonally crazed teenager, or sitting around like a bump on a log.

Get Your Flu Shot This Year:
I’ve been getting a yearly flu shot since I hit 60. And, haven’t had a dose during this time. The shot doesn’t hurt and it no longer gives flu-like symptoms after.
As you probably know, flu is a contagious illness. But, did you know that it could possibly be life-threatening?
The flu virus is especially hard on us senior citizens. And, if you have a pre-existing ailment like diabetes or any kind of heart problem, getting the flu is life-threatening.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention a flu shot is still the best way to avoid getting the cruddy flu.
So do the people who love you a favor and get a flu shot this year!
