If ya wanna be happy for the rest’a your life,
Then follow my simple advice…
How To Be Happy Today – 2 Extraordinary Ideas…
1. Shut-Up More Often!
Why you should lockdown your mouth:
People you hang with already know everything you know (they don’t, but they ‘think’ they do).
Sooo, don’t waste your breath because they ‘ain’t gonna hear you.
Most people you meet for the 1st time will want to impress you with their chops…
Keep it zipped and let ’em be the cool and interesting one.
You just might learn something in the process.
Plus, when you listen, people tend to like you better, think you’re super smart and consider you a great conversationalist!
And, according to Albert Einstein, a somewhat thoughtful Dude, “If A is a success in life, then A equals x plus y plus z. Work is x; y is play; and z is keeping your mouth shut…”
2. Stop Thinking So Much!
You could slip into a lotta trouble if you suddenly stopped judging your surroundings and adjusting to incoming signals.
I mean, my wife’s eyes sometime project a ‘look’ that sends me to somewhere she’s not…
But, I’m not talking about that kinda survivalist thinking.
Nope, it’s the other thinking we do when we think we’re not thinking and then ‘wake-up’ and realize our mind is busy, uh ‘thinking’.
Replacing that type of thinking with awareness you’re doing it, is a key to being happy immediately.
Here’s why that’s true:
You can’t relive your past. Nor can you predict future events…
Time spent thinking about either, changes nothing and opens wide the door for sadness and worry. Worse yet, this brand of thinking blocks out the joy of savoring the act of living.
Suffering is not holding you. You are holding suffering.
When you become good at the art of letting sufferings go, then you’ll come to realize how unnecessary it was for you to drag those burdens around with you.
You’ll see that no one else other than you was responsible. The truth is that existence wants your life to become a festival…” -Osho
When you’re not thinking about disappointments from days past, or worrying about the possibilities of tomorrow, you’re able to fully enjoy what you’re doing at the moment.
Remembering the past is only useful for acknowledging lessons learned.
Planning for the future could help you achieve goals. Having plans and goals can sometimes calm your thoughts within the anguish of fearful nights.
Yet, the future unfolds as it will…
Accept what you can’t control. Then adjust your plans accordingly.
Concentrate upon those few things under your control, i.e. your actions, your choices and your attitude.
Everything else falls under the realm of chance, and aren’t your responsibility. Let them go…
Instead, become aware of your incessant thinking and judging. When you realize you’re doing it, replace that type of useless mind spinning with attention to what you’re doing at the moment…
Savoring the exotic tastes of a big, juicy slice of watermelon, needs no thinking and therefore sublime.
Hot water striking and rolling down your body during a relaxing shower, without letting your thoughts wander into your past or your future, will replace non-productive thinking with a knowing, and a feeling that you’re alive and kicking it…
Immersion within such commonplace moments, without judgement, or mind wandering, is a form of happiness you can experience immediately!
Both shutting up and not thinking, sound counter-intuitive. And, most people won’t take this simple advice…
All the more reason why you should practice them so you can be happy today!
